甲骨文软件研究开发中心2008技术巡讲
活动介绍：
为了更好的促进与学术界的交流，及时把最新研发成果介绍给高校师生，甲骨文软件研究开发中心于2008年４月到６月期间举办"锐意创新，梦想启航-甲骨文软件研究开发中心2008技术巡讲"活动。该活动涉及北京、上海、宁波、广州、深圳等5个城市的8所高校。活动由主题演讲、技术讲座、学术交流等活动组成，覆盖开源、嵌入式、普适计算、数据库、电子商务等多个方面。活动中还将向广大师生介绍甲骨文软件研究开发中心实习生项目，为学生实习提供更多的机会和选择。

讲座：
题目："Oracle Berkeley DB: Embedded Databases for better, faster results"
摘要：Oracle Berkeley DB is a high-performance, small-footprint embedded database system designed for use in demanding applications. Unlike relational database systems, Oracle Berkeley DB offers no query language, just a simple programmatic interface for developers. It is designed to be embedded in a wide variety of applications, including mobile telephony systems, email servers, authentication engines, e-commerce sites, switches, routers, storage boxes and more. Oracle Berkeley DB provides replication, transactions, recovery and concurrent data management in 500 kilobytes of code.
Oracle Berkeley DB is also an open source product. The complete source code is available for download from Oracle's Web site.
In this talk, Mr. Shen will describe the history of the Berkeley DB software, beginning at the University of California at Berkeley in 1991. He will describe the design and implementation of the system, and how it is used in mission-critical devices and services today.

Mo Shen is Senior Manager of the Berkeley DB group in Oracle Asia Research and Development Center, Shenzhen. An Oracle veteran since 1995, he is well versed in Oracle server technologies, including database and application server. He currently drives the strategic initiatives and product development for the Berkeley DB products.
